The Beginning
Agri-Tech
Services was founded in 1992 by Simon Turner. Having left Shuttleworth
College in 1984, Simon spent eight years on a cereal vegetable farm
in North Bedfordshire. Through his experiences on vegetable farms
where irrigation was being utilised, it became clear quite quickly
that a more scientific approach than the “boot” perhaps
would be valuable to assist in the scheduling of irrigation. Simon’s
thoughts proved to be right, growers in some cases had no idea when
it came to irrigating crops.
As time progressed having studied thousands of soil moisture readings,
it was clear that measuring moisture was but one piece of a complex “jigsaw”.
All to often when there was a query surrounding a soil moisture reading,
the question always asked was “what was the weather doing then?” Thus
weather monitoring was looked into, and having developed initially
his own weather monitoring system that proved too expensive economically,
sought an alternative system which was comprehensive enough to provide
the necessary information.
Today the company provides irrigation management advice, supplies irrigation
management tools, Precision Farming Services and Weather monitoring
Equipment to Agriculture. In addition the Weather Monitoring Equipment
has also lead the company to become involved with Industry, Education
and Leisure. |
